About this item DELICIOUS AND NUTRITIOUS LEAVES: Giant Winter Spinach provides an abundant supply of fresh tasty large leaves throughout the winter. The large, elegantly pointed leaves have a strong, rich flavour that’s perfect in winter casseroles or lightly steamed as a delicious side vegetable. WINTER HARDY VEGETABLE: A very hardy winter spinach variety with large dark green leaves of good flavour. It will survive all but the worst weather the UK can throw at it and stands for a long time when it reaches maturity. A good source of pro-vitamin A, vitamin C, lutein and dietary fibre. HOW TO GROW: Sow in shallow drills in a sheltered spot in light shade, and thin seedlings gradually until plants are 30-45cm apart. The thinnings can be replanted to make additional rows. Alternatively sow indoors in modules or pots and transplant outside when plants reach about 10cm tall. In ideal conditions ready to begin harvesting from 7 to 9 weeks. TOP GROWING TIPS: Keep well-watered, especially in dry spells, protect from slugs and hoe between plants to keep the weeds down. Protecting with a cloche through the very worst weather prevents leaves getting damaged by winter gales. GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS: Giant Winter Spinach is a great starter vegetable to grow. Planting veg, herbs and flowers is a wonderful way to spend time in your garden, cultivate mindfulness and appreciate the little things just like in years gone by. Working with the earth and growing things is immensely satisfying – teach your children or grandchildren this priceless skill of harvesting food in their own gardens, allotments, greenhouses, inside the home in pots or even in community gardens!
