About this item STUNNING EVERGREEN PERENNIAL HERB: Lavender Vera is an tall growing evergreen perennial with silvery green foliage and lilac flowers which are highly scented. It is suitable for low informal hedging or individual plants and can grow to a height of about 60cm. AROMATIC AND CALMING SCENT: Can be used for pot-pourri, scented oils and perfumes and lavender bags. The scent of lavender is said to have a calming effect on the nerves and tea made from the leaves and flowers has been used to treat headaches and insomnia. HOW TO PLANT: Sow inside in small pots or trays. Cover with glass until germination occurs. Keep at 20°C. Prick out when large enough and gradually harden off. Sow outside in spring or late summer, barely covered with soil, keep moist. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots and harden off for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost has passed. TOP GROWING TIPS: Germination can be slow and erratic, taking place over several months so some patience is required. Ideally planted in ordinary, well-drained soil in full sun. Harvest the flowering stems when flowers are open and the sun not too hot. GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS: Lavender is a great starter herb to grow. Planting veg, herbs and flowers is a wonderful way to spend time in your garden, cultivate mindfulness and appreciate the little things just like in years gone by. Working with the earth and growing things is immensely satisfying – teach your children or grandchildren this priceless skill of harvesting food in their own gardens, allotments, greenhouses, inside the home in pots or even in community gardens!
